South Eleuthera Mission

“New Horizons for all the
citizens of South Eleuthera
and empowerment for our
young people”

The Mission

Following restoration the project will become the “The South Eleuthera Mission Foundation”, with the emphasis of the “Mission” being:
South Eleuthera Mission
  1. To educate and inform visitors and the indigenous population of South Eleuthera, with particular emphasis on the young people, about the Island’s historical and cultural past. The first floor of the building will house a Museum which will tell the story about the island, its people and the building itself.
  2. To provide facilities for reading and learning, with a library, Children’s library, computer and resource centre all on the ground floor.
  3. To prepare South Eleutherans in particular the youth, to take advantages of the opportunities of an improving local economy through mentorship and apprenticeship programs. The building will be a South Eleutheran faculty for providing employability and vocational skills, to be known as the “The Mission Vocational Trade & Learning Programme”. This will entail the use of other learning facilities and in a two-fold programme practical training on local development sites.
  4. To inform and educate on the benefits and advantages of using environmentally friendly technology in the future, through the use of alternative sources of power generation and methods of sewerage disposal. A “Green” area on the first floor will provide information and we will be seeking to take advantage of “green” information for running the building where feasible.
  5. To provide a rest and refreshment area for visitors to the Mission making use of the building’s traditional kitchen.
  6. To run a schedule of fundraising events channelling activities through the “Friends of the Mission” programme.
